Smart tips for a sustainable outdoor garden

 

The built-environment was a combination of stones and soil. We chose to elevate it and they became the foundation for our design.

• We introduced pavers to create a meandering path,

• Layers of native plants and trailing vines.

• Clusters of shrubs to soften the topography, add movement and color.

• We introduced a composting area to infuse the soil with nutrients from recycled food. 

• Rain barrels were incorporated for irrigation.

• Two types of bird-feeders were added to encourage several species of birds. 

• The result is a sustainable garden that conserves water, supports wildlife, feels calm and welcoming, which is proof that the most rugged landscape can be transformed through thoughtful planning.
